Birds are everywhere and for most of us I am afraid, we take them quite for granted.  There's a flock of starlings, a bunch of sparrows, some crows making noise and those dad burned dirty geese.  That's as far as it goes

Of course there is a reason why we take birds, and especially an individual bird for granted and the reason is that we seldom get up close and personal with an individual bird.

My first up close and personal bird memory was when I was a child, in my back yard, standing with my arm held out and holding a millet seed between my thumb and forefinger.  It was what seemed like an hour (it might have been a quarter of that time) and standing still as I enticed a chickadee to take the seed from my hand.  What a thrill it was when my tiny new friend finally perched on my finger, turned for a moment and found in my eyes what he needed to see then took my offering.
