Reflections in Time Plaques

 
The one feature that best depicts how things were when the waves of Lake Agassiz first lapped up the beaches all throughout Minnesota and now, when just the geological residue remains, is time.  It took many years for the glaciers to form, many more for them to melt down, years more for the great Lake Agassiz to drain through the Minnesota river valley (once called the River Warren) to the Mississippi river.  Since then time worked on the bed of Lake Agassiz and on the fossil remains of creatures and the plant materials that were part of the glacial and post glacial times.  Some plant material steeped and rotted and formed the rich black soil of western Minnesota.  Other material like certain hardwood trees and tree burls cured and hardened with the passing of time until they glowed like beautiful agates.  The burls that you will find in the Reflections in Time plaques have been specially selected for their beauty.  None will be alike or even be similar in terms of the appearance for they all developed as unique growths.  The sentiments engraved upon the burls will also be carefully selected to fit the burl and generally customers will specify which sentiments they want on their selected burl.  All of the plaques, however, will have as their theme, time.

The color of burls is stunning and range from jet black (in the case of walnut burls) to other species that may be almost white.  Some are red like this one and many have dramatic growth rings and tortured grains that reflect the trauma involved with the development of the burl. All of our Reflections in Time plaques are highly polished and contain a pithy saying, proverb or famous quote concerning time.  They will also include the hour glass graphic as a constant reminder of the importance of time in our lives.
