The Miracle Star
| You may think that you are looking at a piece of wood, a cross section of a branch some three or four inches across. You're right but not completely right. I've asked many people to study this piece of wood and tell me what they see. The results is always the same. First, people see the wood as a whole. Upon more study they will see that the wood is nicely sanded and finished. "The grain is beautiful and the variations of colors very nice," they say. "There are lovely lines emanating from the center," they observe. (They're getting warmer.) Almost everyone eventually, it's actually the very last thing they see, notice with shock that in the center of the wood there is a star. In fact, it is from the star that the lovely lines did emanate. They are called rays and the star is called the pith. | ![]() |
