Mike Turgeon at work.

Why, you say, why does an otherwise ordinary fellow find this much fun waiting, just waiting for a bird to come?  Any of us I suppose might enjoy a wait in the woods on a golden afternoon where there's nothing more to do than to see the day work itself slowly toward evening.  But just for the joy of seeing a bird? And even in the deep heart of a Minnesota winter?  This Mike must be some special person then.  And especially when you consider that he will wait like this for hours and hours in any weather with just the hope of getting a special shot.  That red thing you see on the end of his right arm is a hand ready (and we trust able) to click the shutter.

Should the truth be known Mike Turgeon did not start out by loving or even liking birds that much.  No, he started out in his special tale with just the glory of the camera and the things that he found that he could do with it.

The bird, his first bird just happened by that day when he was studying his camera and lens, simply focusing upon a tree limb there in the yard.  Little wonder, though, that chickadees became some of his later favorites for it was a chickadee that was his first official subject.

From chickadees who seem always to hang around and perform as willing entertainers for most anyone camera or no, Mike soon branched out to hunt for the others, the wilier ones with rarer haunts.
